Victims with Disabilities: The Forensic Interview

Techniques for Interviewing Victims with
Communication and/or Cognitive Disabilities

VICTIMS WITH DISABILITIES: The Forensic Interview - This 55 minute film is divided into chapters (each about 7 minutes long for use at roll call trainings), providing the 8 essential steps in achieving a successful forensic interview of crime victims with cognitive and/or communication disabilities. Actual law enforcement officers and forensic interviewers demonstrate how to learn to elicit the "who, what, where, when" of specific events in the individual's life. Incidents of actual abuse are not used, but rather an emphasis on the skills, attitudes and techniques to use with members of this population is made.
